how do i make one cell change colour when the number is greater or smaller than another

I am doing a spread sheet for to enter the times that i do in a rally.

So if i post a time of 00:49.3 and the target time is 03:54.3 i want the cell to turn red, or if the set time is less then the target time it should be green.

How can i do this in excel please

    Using Conditional Formatting?

If the your times are in A1 and B1, in conditional formatting rules, use this formula.

    =a1<b1 >>for red

    =a1>b1 >>for green.

How can you use Conditional Formating.

--In Excel 2007 and 2010, Conditional Formatting is in the Styles group on the Home tab. In Excel 2003, Conditional Formatting is on the Format menu. See here how you can work using CF.

If you need more help, pls upload a small sample workbook.

You need to highlight the range that you interest-in my example C3:C50--and then in CF rules you put these formulas.

    =$C3>$D3

    =$C3<$D3

    See the $ sign...
