Unhappy Drop Down Selection - Selecting name but creating a code to appear

Can someone please help asap...basically just started a new job and may be getting fired. I have an excel document and I need to create a dropdown, however I need to select a name from the dropdown but have it select a code automatically. Is there anyway to do this.

    e.g

So I select Cotton from the drop down but it changed to become a code - 52.

Or I create a drop down with apple, pear, banana etc and when I choose banana it creates the code 50437 as I have a list of names and associated codes needed.

    Please help

I am terribly unskilled in excel/computing as you can see from this post. I think I've attached a basic picture to help you see as i'm working with private information and can't really display it unfortunately. Thank you for all responses, i'm a little desperate!

Re: Drop Down Selection - Selecting name but creating a code to appear

OO it works for the fake one I made but not the real one haha, I think the problem is that my drop down is saved in another tab so vlooking up against the other tab is creating issues. Can I ask what the 0 represents, is this just the same as if writing FALSE in the VLOOKUP pop up? I have been typing VLOOKUP=(Cell on Sheet 3, X11 (Which is the title of the main cell): 11 (as its 2 along to look up) and 0) . Goodness, I think this is just a lost cause, again thanks for any help
