Grouped rows disabled when Protecting worksheets!

    Greetings to to the forum,

My first post as I have a query which hopefully someone will be able to resolve for me!?

I have a protected worksheet which enables only certain sections to be edited, data inputs etc. I also have a set of rows grouped which need to be activated depending on data type for particular projects to be captured. Problem is, when the sheet is protected, when users click on the + and - buttons to either ungroup and group the rows depending on type of project, this feature is disabled.

I get a popup alert that tells me "You cannot use this command on a protected worksheet. To use this command you must first unprotect the sheet ....". Problem is I don't want all users to have access as giving them the password defeats my purpose of protecting the sheet.

See the attached file, row 23.

Any idea on how to overcome this will be appreciated !??

    regards,
    Dave

    TIMESHEET 11-11.xlsx
    yudlugar,

I'm trying to do the same thing DaveRimmer requested, but I'm not confident I'm pasting the VBA code correctly. Could you please explain where to paste this code? Note: I've never entered VBA code before. Also, I have multiple worksheets (one for each employee), do I need to copy this into each worksheet?

Here is my file. I'm want the users to be able to expand/collapse lines 37-52.

    Thank you.

    Wade,

PRess alt+F11 to open the vba editor. click insert->module and then in that module paste the code. Finally place the cursor between the sub and end sub commands and press F5 to apply.

Re: Grouped rows disabled when Protecting worksheets!

    yudlugar,

I successfully added the VBA code and it worked; I could expand and collapse the group while the sheet was protected. However, when I saved (using macro-enabled workbook) and closed the file, upon opening the file, it would not let me expand or collapse the group. It seems the code didn't get saved. Please help...one more time.

Have you saved your file as a xlsx file?
xlsx file dont contain vba , you must save it asl a xlsm file.

The file name shows that the extension is "xlsx", but the file type says it is "Microsoft Excel Macro-Enabled Worksheet".

    Hi yudlugar,

Hoping you can help me too. I tried the code you mentioned in this post. But still encountering some issues

I entered the code, saved the file, exited and reopened and tried the group / ungroup in one of the sheet, but it still come up with the original error
However I can get the group and ungroup to work if I go into "Run Macro" and run the each of the macros.

How can get the Macro all ready to go soon as the file is open?.
