    Curious about Metric versus Imperial

Is there a way to run excel in metric only?

IE i have a workbook that is in Imperial as I'm in the US in this workbook I calculate in square feet and linear feet. If someone in lets say the United Kingdom wanted to use my workbook but there number system is in metric how can I go about creating my workbook to work for them in metric?

    Thanks

There are no pre-programmed buttons to push that will automatically detect and convert measurement units. You will have to program the spreadsheet to perform the unit conversions. A lot of this programming will depend on how you want to structure the input and output in the spreadsheet.

When I do unit conversions, I like to use the =CONVERT() function. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ma...551.aspx?CTT=1 Using this function, it is easy to program the spreadsheet as a table that might look something like this:

Then you just need to decide what column to draw from when using the spreadsheet. Of course, formulas for "combined units" (like ft^2 or mph) will need more complex formulas to deal with the way the available units are combined.

If you need specific help with your spreadsheet, I would suggest that you post a sample spreadsheet showing how you want to structure the input data and how you want to structure the output data. Then we may be better able to help you with more specific suggestions.

Excel has no concept of units; it understands different decimal separators, date formats, and currency symbols, but a number is just a number -- not liters, gallons, kilotons, or micrograms.
