Red face Have you ever designed a really satisfying VBA code? Thought about selling it?

    Hello there,

I've just comepleted a fairly substantial project - using lots ov VBA to create a property management programme for letting agencies.

It started off as just a project I was doing for my current employer but since there's a huge gap in the market for this product I believe it has some real value outwith this business (i own the software and not my employer so I am free to do what I want with it).

Does anyone have advice about this sort of thing?
Any advice would be helpful and appreciated

Also, if I was looking for a job using VBA which job might I be looking for?
    Which job are you doing?

I am very much looking forward to your responses.

    Thanks,
    Ross

Unles you build full addins, you can always do freelance work.

Most Analysts will have Adv Excel skills as a requirement with preference for VBA/Macros.

There are quite a few programming jobs for just Excel in the financial sector, NY/NJ area. They expect you to know modeling and have finance experience.

    I am an analyst.

I would recommend you learn how to write queries for SQL. Since spread sheets and SQL go hand in hand at large companies. If you apply to small companies, you should know how to scrub data. I've seen different departments in a small business all submit "data". None of it consistent, and you have to fix it into a readable manor and build reports.

If you want to impress people, tell them you can automate processes with vba. The same questions that get repeated on these forums. Scheduling reports, Automate Emailing reports and Importing/Exporting.

    Thanks for the reply Slx.

It is a full add-in that i've been building/ testing for the last month. We've had a subscription to online software in the past (for the same purpose) but i rated it extremely badly - hence why I took it upon myself to design a solution of my own. I'm a recently graduated engineer so I was happy enough getting stuck into something like this. So, with practically no VBA exp in Dec 2013 i've finally got something that works, and works very well.

I've never priced software or sold software to anyone but I do believe, due to the simplicity of the design, companies would be very interested in my design. I'm planning to travel to companies to do direct marketing and try and sell .
I'll let you know how it goes
