Question Enter key won't return cursor to next row

Just switched to Windows 7 and this is my first time using my tax spreadsheet. I managed to convert formulas and formatting, but I'm having the darndest time with the cursor! I have 17 columns and I enter data in the first 4, then tab over to whichever of the others I need. After I enter the last value, I hit "enter", usually from the numbers pad. At first, it alternated between going all the way back to the first column, next row; OR 2nd column, next row. Now, all it will do is move one cell; up, down, left or right depending on what I change it to in the advanced menu. Any suggestions on fixing this? I have a LOT of data to enter and I need to do it tonight and tomorrow -- we're being audited Thanks in advance!

Re: Enter key won't return cursor to next row

I've tried all 3 options mentioned in the article. The first and last just return either bottom or right, depending on how I've set the cursor movement in the advanced section. I may not have set the parameters correctly in the middle section, as I'm not sure I understand what I'm supposed to be doing. I think that when I selected the cells, that was all? An that didn't work, either. It still just moved right or down one cell. Any other ideas? Thanks for your help thus far!

Re: Enter key won't return cursor to next row

ENTER moves the cursor down one cell (by default).
TAB moves the cursor one cell to the left.
(holding SHIFT while using those keys reverses the motion).

You can also move the cursor using the arrow keys.

    Examples:
    1) The cursor is on A1. You press TAB twice to move to C1. Then you press ENTER. The cursor moves to A2.
    2) The cursor is on A1. You press TAB once to move to B1. Then RIGHT ARROW to move to C1. Then ENTER. The cursor moves to C2.

So the ENTER key moves from the "original" cell; moves horizontal from the "original" cell using the TAB key "don't count" but moves using the arrow keys do.

I suspect that it is mixing-and-matching TAB and ARROWs that is causing the seemingly arbitrary behavior but I'm not sure.

Maybe one of the "Lotus Compatability" checkboxes at the bottom of the OPTIONS:ADVANCED setting is activated?

...We usually prefer people don't post pictures, but can you take a screencap of your OPTIONS:ADVANCED (EDITING OPTIONS) panel?

I can't really think of what would be causing this otherwise....

Can you reproduce the behavior in the two "examples" above? If not, what was different?

dont know if i am understanding your problem correctly
you have 17 columns of which you are data entering the first 4 for many rows?

if this is the case does the 2nd option on my link not work?
