Changing currency based on user input

Hi, on a current project, I have been requested to have an 'Open field' where the user will enter their chosen currency, and then this will tell the currency cells throughout the workbook to display with a particular currency format (ie, $, euro, SEK, etc.). No exchange rates are required, just changed the format display of the cells.

My original solution was a drop-down menu with a list of currencies, and then the use of conditional formatting for each of these selections.

This was not acceptable, however, as this limited the number and flexibility of currency options.

Does anyone have another way to achieve this with VBA or custom format?

My understanding is that they would enter a Dollar sign, and then all the relevant cells would change to this formatting.
