Simplest solution... put in place a password to modify the file and distribute that password to only those persons necessary.
My Recommended Reading:
Volatility
Sumproduct & Arrays
Pivot Intro
Email from XL - VBA & Outlook VBA
Function Dictionary & Function Translations
Dynamic Named Ranges
Thanks, the problem is that they keep forgetting the PW, they have too many to remember
In which case you're looking at VBA, specifically running off
which will pull their NT logon username credentials - this is a relatively safe & robust method unless people know each other logon details of coursePlease Login or Register to view this content.
(at which of course concerns of workbook protection pale into insignificance)
Before saving to the Network ensure you've run / enforced a Close event so as to protects all sheets and the workbook itself... then in the Open event run a test on the NT credentials and unlock as necessary... this way if VBA is not enabled by end-users the file is locked down.
(remember also to password protect the VBA project)
An age old discussion but be aware that XL security is not watertight - if people are educated or determined enough they will break any passwords you put in place... nothing says "you REALLY need to look at me" more than a protected file and/or hidden sheet(s)!
