Checkbox using Format Control and copying control values

Hi,

Sorry if this is in the wrong category. I'm a novice user and am slowly trying to find my way thru completing my project.

I'm working on a checklist spreadsheet. In the A column, I have checkboxes and have rules in place that will change the color of the cells/fill in column B when the boxes are checked or unchecked. I completed the first row and it works great, but when I go to copy the Format Control, the cell link properties won't copy correctly. They stay absolute (even with the $ removed). When I click in the first checkbox, they all automatically check. UGH!

Is there a way to copy the Format Control from checkbox to checkbox easily? I have over 500 checkboxes, so doing it individually will be a nightmare!
