Need help with logging macro.

I need a little help writing a macro. I have googled and not had much luck finding what I need in a format I can understand. What I need to do is copy the value of A:2487 and paste to first empty cell in column D and write the current time and date into the first empty cell in column E. This would create a timestamped record of previous values of A:2487. Can this be easily accomplished? Thanks in advance for your input.
