    active x controls

Hello; I would like to add four active x control command buttons to a worksheet on my desktop PC; when I try to do this (developer, insert), I get the message "cannot do this" - or words to that effect. However, on my wife's laptop with same version of excel (2013), I can insert a command button active x with no error messages. You expert help would be appreciated.

    Regards Ron

Thanks for your input, but that link was a bit too deep for my level of understanding. One point I should have added was the desktop PC is on Windows 8 and the laptop on 8.1; woul.d this be the reason?

No, it's the fact that, as that link said, there's a problem with some updates that Microsoft released. There's a link on that page to an article with a FixIt tool: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3025036/EN-US

    ron,

The link boils down to having to delete some temp files from the computer, which got messed up with a microsoft update. You need to navigate to this folder:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\Excel8.0 (where YOURUSERNAME is the name you log into windows with.) Then delete any .exd files. Same for \Temp\vbe
After that restart excel and try again.

    Re: active x controls

    easiest solutions:
open your file explorer and go to the "C" drive. Search the "C" Drive for the following "*.exd"
Delete all files that appear as MSForms.exd
    Problem solved

    Re: active x controls

.exd files MAY not be indexed and may NOT be found in a search. best bet is to navigate to the folders as described and delete the files.

They WILL be recreated but they will be the correct versions.
