Hi dokat and welcome to ExcelForum,

It seems like you have some kind of corruption, which you already know.

    1. If you have other workbooks with Active X that previously worked and don't work now, you are probably a victim of the Microsoft Dec 14th update. The following link which has a fixit link should help you fix that: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3025036

    -----------------

If your problem is unique to this workbook, the following have helped me in the past, in order of ease of use:

    2. Worksheet copy and delete
    a. Make a copy of the offending sheet
    b. Delete the original offending Sheet
    c. Rename the copy back to the name of the original

    3. Copy all your worksheets to a new workbook, one by one. Import macros.

    4. You may have an ActiveX Name that is a duplicate of another Active X object on the sheet, or a duplicate of a shape on the sheet. Delete all Active X objects on the sheet and recreate them one by one. I know this step is painful, but that is the nature of Active X.

    I hope this helps.

Thumbs up Re: Can't Exit Design Mode because Control 'CommandButton1' can not be created Error

    LJMetzger,

I know it's two years since your response, but I just found it today and you saved me a lot of grief.
An Excel file with a macro/button that worked fine in the past stopped working.
Our in-house 'expert' just threw up his hands and said "looks like you have a corrupt file."
Your suggestion about copying the offending worksheet, deleting the original, and then renaming the copy worked like a
    charm. Thank you so much.

Hi John and welcome to ExcelForum,

I'm glad it worked out for you. That technique has helped me out many times.
