Need to remove cmd window from ping script and have hostname show up without lagging

I've been searching for a while for a ping script inside an excel sheet. After a couple days of searching, I've found the one that's fast enough to do the job. However, I'm having a hard time disabling the ping window from popping up. If possible, I would like the script to run in the background without appearing on the screen. Doable?

Also I’ve been messing around with adding the –a so that I could pull the hostname. Its working great up until it hits an IP address that doesn’t have a host name. So that takes a little longer. Is there a way for me to use the

line to have it where it’s either “[ “or “:”

I could live with the cmd window popping up. Most importantly what I want to achieve is if the script is able to ping the device, grabs the hostname and if the hostname is not available it grabs the ip address instead.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks!
