    Ctrl A in cell?

Is there any way I can allow users to use the Ctrl A (select all) short cut in a cell when they are using my spreadsheet? Right now it doesnt allow it...

I want them to be able to double click a cell, and press ctrl and A to be able to select all of the text in that cell..

It might help to know what they need to be able to do with the text they select. If they select a cell (but not double click) and click CTRL-C or Copy, it will copy all the text in the cell to the clipboard. Is there something else you want them to be able to do by selecting that text?

I want them to be able to double click a cell, and press ctrl and A to be able to select all of the text in that cell.
then why not just copy the cell normally?

    Or F2 shift Home

    Re: Ctrl A in cell?

Just be able to do ctrl + a so I can select text in a cell, I dont like the idea of people pasting info into the cell by just clicking the cell and pasting because that can ruin the formatting of the cell..

Without VBA I don't think you can prevent that.

Although it is not exactly clear what you want to achieve.

    Re: Ctrl A in cell?

Hmm. I have a cell that has a filler background green. The user can put any information they want in that cell. If they copy something from an outside source, click the cell and paste it, the formatting (filler green background ) goes away. I guess theres no way to prevent that, except for me actually telling everyone using the sheet to click inside the cell to paste?

[EDIT] Doing my own research I see that the only way is to use "Paste Values", so I cant really tell people they can use the keyboard shortcut ctrl v to paste as that could remove formatting in the cell....oh well.

    Re: Ctrl A in cell?

Do you just want to force paste special as values?

If so check out this thread for one

    or this one

    or maybe try

Or you could do something like reinstating the format rules each time they save.
