    Recovering from a corrupted Workbook

I've got a big problem. I have a workbook I've been putting together for years. It's got tons of examples of different SUM things you can do, and I use it as a reference book. Today I merged it with another workbook and renamed it. When I did, SOMETHING went wrong. When I try to open it it just keeps clocking. I've tried holding down SHIFT when I open it, I've tried turning off calculations, I'm stumped. Of course it's 1007 KB, so JUST too large to attach.

Any help on how I could get it open would be appreciated. Barring that, I'd like to be able to copy each of the sheets out, and if possible my VBA code modules.

BTW, I've checked and there's no backup copy on my network.

    Thanks in advance.

When you zip the file, is it still to big to upload?

Good call! SO close to being too big.

I'm not getting any errors from it, it just keeps clocking when I try to open it, so hopefully it'll do better on your computer. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I was able to open, but it gave me a VBA error message and obviously would not link to another workbook. I have saved with a new name. Try opening now.

Re: Recovering from a corrupted Workbook

Thanks Alansidman. I can open it, but I still have issues; it opens in Protected view, so I can't get to the VBA project to fix what's broken (I THINK the issue is that I have two macros with the same name). When I enable it, again it just locks up Excel.

Can I get you to do me the favor of extracting the VBA project (I don't think I locked it), then save the WB as an xlsx version, then attach both to a post? Or, look through the project, find the two functions with the same name and rename one of them? From that point I can repair everything else that's broken, I hope!

BTW, I'm about to leave work for the week, so may not be able to reply back until Monday. But my appreciation will be for you the whole weekend!

No issues. Will separate the VBA from the file.

Re: Recovering from a corrupted Workbook

Attached is the original file with the corrections made. There were three functions that had apparently been duplicated. I changed the name of the duplicated by adding XX to the name. Additionally, I have extracted all the code and done likewise with the names and put them in a new file. Both are attached. Good luck with this. I hope you have a good weekend.

Re: Recovering from a corrupted Workbook

Thank you, thank you, thank you! That's what I get for combining similar workbooks without checking for duplicate code; just goes to show I'm still a man in need of a Savior!

Hopefully I can do you a favor one day. Thanks so much for your help!

You are welcome. Thanks for the rep. May be travelling through Austin in late January. PM me some local restaurants that are worth going to. Payment enough.

I tried PMing you, but the forum was acting up. Let me know if you got it (you might have gotten it a lot of times, and if so I apologize).
