    VBE interface to banking software

Splash Money, Quicken and other Financial software provide for sending instructions to a bank resulting in the bank making payments to desired creditors. I'm looking for a VBE macro to let me specify the payments and send them to my bank. Currently I enter payment data twice, once to my spreadsheet and then again to my bank's website, which is an opportunity for mistakes to be made. I used to do it using a Pascal program that Read a text file written by dBase and controlled my modem to send DTMF tones to my bank's bank-by-phone service (now long gone) to accomplish the job of paying bills. Any suggestions?

Re: VBE interface to banking software

What format will the bank accept? Must it be DTMF tones or do they accept csv,txt files?

If the latter then we need to know the exact format they require. i.e. field names, field lengths, do the fields need to be surrounded by quote marks...etc. Usually the bank will have a standard specification document, in which case attach that here too.
If you can obtain that information and send us your Excel file with sample data in exactly the way you compile it then no doubt we can help.

Do your bank offer a test area where you can prove the final solution?

Re: VBE interface to banking software

Thanks for the Reply Richard. I only mentioned the DTMF operation for historical background. It disappeared at least 20 years ago.

However, you've hit the crux of the problem, that is banks and Quicken/variations have locked the process up to prevent fraud. Quicken & MS Money used to accept .csv input, but that is gone, too.

The most likely path would be an open-source financial package that has the bank links AND accepts text or other known format directives. So the question becomes is there a VBE macro that talks to a financial package that talks to banks?
