Drop Down Control Using VBA and NOT Using Data Validation

    Good morning!

I would like to have a Combo Box (drop down) control in the first 50 rows Column A that chooses from a list of 500 options in column L.

I do not want to used data validation because it is too clunky - displays only 8 options, fixed font, no autocomplete, etc. I have read and tried the nicely-designed and well-written option offered by Debra at Ozgrid but that solution is based on Data Validation, which is always present unless one double-clicks in the cell. I am looking for a more elegant solution.

    Any suggestions appreciated!

    Thanks,
    tom

    Hello snapfade,

Have you tried implementing a ListBox instead?

    Hi Winon,

I am not sure how this is different from a regular combo box.

The problem, as I see it, is that neither the ListBox nor the ComboBox can be assigned to EACH of the individual cells (50 rows) in column A. Data Validation enables that but again, I do not want to use Data Validation.

    Your thoughts?

    tom

Correction. I mistakenly quoted the wrong website in my first post. Debra's website is Contextures.com. Here is the link to the article:

Re: Drop Down Control Using VBA and NOT Using Data Validation

I found an answer in another thread where I took a different approach. The solution was not VBA after all. It was a sophisticated formula inside Data Validation.
