Renaming open PDF files

A couple years ago, I had to write some code that would copy PDFs from one location to another. Unfortunately, if the PDF was open by a user, this would fail.

I got around this problem by first renaming the pdf with something like this:

Please Login or Register  to view this content.

Once the file was renamed, there was no problem copying the latest version across.

Today, I'm trying to do the same thing, but I get Run-time error 75. Renaming works if the PDF is closed. It also works if it is a .txt file that is open or closed.

Any ideas?

Depends what program you are "opening" with
if i open txt file with notepad/wordpad i can rename while its open
however if i open the file with msword, it wont let me rename it

i can open PDF file in internet explorer and rename the pdf
however if i open with adobe i cannot rename it

dont know the "official" reasoning for it

however i can copy pdf when its open in adobe so dont know why your original doesnt work?
