Not able to record macro to Personal Macro Workbook

Hello,

I am just about to start a macro project. I would like the macro to be stored in my personal macro workbook so I can run it on any workbook. When I have a workbook open I can select "Record New Macro" and under the "store macro in" dropdown box I can select "Personal Macro Workbook", when I click on "OK" a popup box appears saying, "Peronal macro workbook in the startup folder must stay open for recording", when I click on "OK" another popup box appears saying "unable to record". I'm not sure what to do to check the personal macro workbook is in the correct place or configured correctly such that I can record to it. Thanks for any help to get me going.

Hi thanks, I have looked in 'File, Options, Add-ins' and 'File, Options, Advanced' and can not see any reference anywhere to personal macro workbook to see if it is selected or not? I am running Excel from Microsoft office professional plus 2013. thanks
