X-axis of scatter chart: Tick mark and X-axis label for every data point

I have a scatter chart called "Burnup".

It usually has 5 data points. The X-values are stored in cells A1-A5. The Y-values are stored in cells B1-B5.

I don't want evenly spaced tick marks on my X-axis. Instead, I want one tick mark on the X-axis for every data point. Each tick mark should be "below" its corresponding data point, and the label for each tick mark should be the X-value for that data point.

I don't want to label the data points themselves. I just want to have ticks and labels on the X-axis that line up with the data points.

Can an expert show me how that can be done? Thanks,

I would probably use a dummy series:

1) Your picture shows the x axis at y=0, so add a column of 0's to your spreadsheet.
2) Add this column to the chart as a new series with the same x axis values as your existing series (or create this column and include it in the chart's source data at chart creation).
3) Format this "dummy" series to have a + or other suitable marker.
4) Add data labels to this series, have the data labels be positioned below the marker, and have the data label display the x value.
5) Hide the primary x axis.
