Hope I can explain. (office xp)
I want to find duplicated names and consolidate some information from other
columns into one. Then delete the other duplicated names so there is only one
name but it now contains additional information in columns C and possibly D.
If a name is duplicated it will be as the example, but if the name appears
twice then it will not fill in col D, if it only appears once then its ok.

On a single excel sheet (Registration Cards) row 1 is headings
(col A)Name (col B)Class 1 (col C)Class 2 (col D)Class 3
Billy Bob 1) Monster Truck
Billy Bob 0) Nitro Truck
Billy Bob 2) 1/8th Scale
Jane Doe 2) 1/8th Scale
Jane Doe 0) Nitro Truck
Harry Carry 4) Stadium Truck

After it should look something like this.
(col A)Name (col B)Class 1 (col C)Class 2 (col D)Class 3
Billy Bob 1) Monster Truck 0) Nitro Truck 2) 1/8th Scale
Jane Doe 2) 1/8th Scale 0) Nitro Truck
Harry Carry 4) Stadium Truck

Ok now for the 2nd part hope it isn’t to complicated
The information above is exported from a program in a csv file format.
I then save it as an xls format do all the name dup stuff, Then mail merge
some of that information to another program (word or Publisher)
then I have to save the xls file as a txt <tab> file format and import to
another program.
Is there an easier way to get from point A to point B.

NOTE: The origanal exported csv file changes names and info are deleted and
added on a regulor bases. so I go through this proccess pretty regularly.
