Hi
You could probably get a hundred different answers to this question so my personal experience; I didn't learn from a book - there was a situation at work which needed something done systematically within Excel.
The first thing that I did was use the macro recorder to do one or two basic things (eg adding a few columns together, entering some different formulas, changing the colours of cells). When you then go to the Visual Basic editor (Tools/Macro/VB Editor in 2003) then you can see the set of instructions. By reading some VBA text along with looking at examples like this you start to understand the objects, methods and properties.
Reading the threads here and then trying to use and adapt the code is often a good way to learn a few new things. If I recommended anything I'd probably recommend this forum before anything else but you do need to learn a few basic principles in order to understand.
Not sure if that's exactly what you want but it's ONE way to go about it. Having a practical use for your VBA is good; rather than just following an excercise a practical use gives you the goal and I found that a good way of learning was trying to find the best way to get to that goal.
Hope you find a way to suit what you want.
A
