I am using 'Lookup' to enter cell contents. The cell sizes are fixed (its a type of form). When the 'Lookup' exceeds a certain number of characters (all text), I want to automatically merge the entry cell with the one immediately below so that all the 'Lookup' data can be seen.
I am quite an experienced Excel user but not a programmer.

Sorry, can't get the actual file small enough to upload, but will try to explain further.
Say, cell J29 'looks up' from J863, which contains 220 characters, but J29 (and the other cells on the actual form) are only large enough for 180 characters, so J29 needs to be merged with J30 to see full contents of J863. Font size has to remain the same. The look up range is variable, depending on the values entered in F29 and G29, so J29 is not always too small. Hence, I want the program to check if the number of characters in the lookup cell is greater than 180 and, (only) if so, merge J29 and J30.
In use, the sheets are protected as they are completed by several people. So I'd like to automate the process for the whole form and leave the protection intact (which might further complicate matters)!
