worksheet change not always firing

i put together this code. it works ok in 97 (but not if a cell is changed in col A by validation dropdown which i believe is correct)

it works ok for me in 2007(either thro dropdown or direct input) but user with excel 2003 cant get it to work at all, any ideas? named range "drop" is just A B C D and is used in data validation dropdown col A

apparently it works but only after saving/closing then reopening workbook
why is that neccesary?

Maybe you left events turned off (by exiting the code early) while debugging?

now thats a possibility for me! but the op just stuck it in and it didnt work, until a save close/open !!!!!

ah ha nicer ,clearing first then adding validation never thought to do it that way around also i didny know you could use target.column 1
i'll post that up and look clever then lol
