    Merge two spreadsheets

I am trying to merge the data from two speadsheets to get a single sheet that displays all data. The sheets have some matching data (ITEM & LOC) and if they match, should be placed on the same line, but some lines will not correspond and the lines should be left blank..

In the following image, I need to achieve Sheet 3 out of Sheet 1 and Sheet 2. You can see the details in the attached Worksheet.

    I am using Excel 2003.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated.

Re: How to merge two spreadsheets

Hi and welcome to the board

Instead of a picture, to best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

    Thanks Arthur,

I have compiled a sample workbook explaining what I need and what I have to work with. Hopefully someone can help, I am desperate.

Re: How to merge two spreadsheets

    Hi beanz98,

See how the attached goes which creates a primary key for both datasets (tabs) to be compared against and reported on.

Note the macro is based on the layout of the sample data you provided and the three sheet tab name variables may have to be changed to reflect your needs.

Let me know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Robert
