Getting <REMINDERS> from a CLOSED WORKBOOK in a fixed path

Is it possible to get REMINDERS from CLOSED WORKBOOKS

I have Tabulated most of the Payments due for Different Insurance Policies in Excel..

However, inspite of this there's always a possibilty of still missing the payments if the WorkBook or File is not checked for the recent payments..

Is there anu WOrkAround where without Opening the WOrkBook it generates some kind of MsgBox prompt or any kind of Indication on the screen on reaching a particular date before the payment due at a specified time.

I am always spending an Average of 15 hours on the computer with this file so it will be handy if I get a prompt then..!

P.S. I am aware of conditional formatting but thats not what Im looking for I am looking for some kind of Reminders or Alarms to Buzz when the particular date is met and at a specified time..

Application: It can be used to even remember Birthdays or Important Days such as Anniversaries..etc
ofcourse right now for Premium Payments..

    Warm Regards

I have a calendar that you click on a specific date & it reads from another sheet.
    Hope that helps.

Can you please mention more about the Calendar and also is the requirement possible to achieve as in if I have a WorkBook where the Payments and the Dates of the payments are mentioned then can i get a REminder 7 days in advance to make arrangements for the payments..

Re: Is it possible to get REMINDERS from CLOSED WORKBOOKS

    Dear Forum,

Can someone please reply whether this is possible to achieve,,

I reiterate the requirement, I have Insurance Data with the Premium amounts and the dates when they are due computed in excel..

Now these Insurance Policies fall in different months of the year and to remember to make a payment is easy if I go through the file..

But there's no reason for anyone to access the file unless there's a new policy added or matured...or unless someone explicitly checks for the Due Dates..

So I wanted to know Is it possible to get a Reminder from this File even when its not opened as after opening it I can always check it myself..

The real Novelty is when I get prompts Automatically even when its not opened..

P.S. Would appreciate any help or links or suggestion with similar approach

    Regards

    Re: REMINDERS from CLOSED WORKBOOKS

Are the books located in a single directory ?
Does each book have only one date inside ?
What sheet(s) are the dates on ?
What column are the dates on ?
Does each Sheet only have one date ?
In other words what's the pattern here ?

Thanks in the First Place to respond as I am delighted to know that..!

My Apologies for the slightly incorrect Title : It should be WOrkBook and Not WOrkBooks...SO I hsve changed it to the below for clarity..
Oflate I am making numerous mistakes while mentioning WOrkBook = File..My Bad..and SOrry again...

Getting REMINDERS from a CLOSED WORKBOOK in a fixed path

    Dear Nimrod,

I think Attaching a File with explanatory comments would be better to explain the requirement..

    There are 5 Sheets/Tabs like:
Birthdates, Marriage Anniversaries, Death Anniversaries, Insurance Due Dates, Miscellaneous Dates..

This File/ Individual Sheetes would contain all the Important Dates and would not be opened on a regular basis unless new data has to be entered..

Need something to trigger an Alarm 1 or 7 days in advance depending on the nature of the occassion even when its closed..

DOnt know whether this is possible but if yes then it would be quite a boon..

the Path of the FIle is in "My Documents"...prefer something that can hold a dynamic path to move the File elsewhere too though this is not so important.

Once the Alarm Buzzes and the Message Box prompt or Any Picture shows the Importance of the Date then after OKing it should be OFFED or if an Option like Snooze can be added nothing like it..

I intend to have icons for different occassions to graphically depict the importance of the date such as Birthday clip-Art Image with the name of the person and his Birhtdate and Age and also his contact no or any relevant information which will be added in additional columns.to make it more meaningful..
The Images or Icons is the next development and nothing to do with the Reminder Theory though...

Maybe need to have a common SHeet which extracts the most recent data to be Remided collated from all the SHeets...I would appreciate if I get thelp for even 1 Sheet as once this is achieved I can always expand on that...

So please go through the File..and thanks for helping in advance..

    Warm regards

Re: Getting <REMINDERS> from a CLOSED WORKBOOK in a fixed path

    Hi:
I'm not a big fan of re-creating wheels , i.e. there's already lot's of calendar apps out there, but if you want to do it in excel here's an outline to one approach ...

    1) Add the macos to the Calendar Speadsheet to check for dates
    2) Add a custom user form to display message and the picture
    3) Add a call to the Macro to the "on_open" event in the workbook
    4) Add a call to minimize book in the "on_open" event ( so don't see it open)
    5) Last step in macro is to close book
6a) GoTo Windows "Control Panel" ... "Scheduled Tasks" and set Schedule Windows to open file once or twice a day ... the open of file will trigger the running of the macro.

6b) OR... Have the "StartUp" of windows open the workbook which would trigger the "on_open" event which would trigger the macro.

BUT... as I said at the first ... there are plenty of apps already around that do this .. so I'm not going to write the code just to re-invent the wheel.

Honestly, I am unaware of a lot of Stuff in Excel as I am not formally trained in MS Office however have just learned things on my own and a lot of great help from this Great Forum..

I would rate my excel skills to 4-5 out of 10 or maybe lower, as I am not good in VBA or Even a lot of features that are in-built..are un-known to me..

However, one thing good is that I am open to feedbacks and learning new things and thats how I try to innovate my Excel work..

Now I am not aware of the above mentioned features and therefore using them was out of the question for me but I can start thinking in those lines..

BUt I would appreciate some more help. now where is the Calendar SpreadSheet..and how do I check for dates..

can you please attach an example with this approach....

I have just recently started delving in VBA and so its not really very easy-going for me but the end-results are really worthy enough for all the efforts undertaken..

    Thanks in advance

    Regards
