Find and Replace Based on a Table.

I've looked everywhere for a solution to this, and nothing seems to work. I've tried ExcelPipe, Mass Find and Replace for Excel, and various other programs, along with many macros I've found online.

All I need to to do is take data in the following form:

    403-398.jpg
    403-398-T.jpg
    403-398-S.jpg
    2934-4-405.jpg
    2934-4-405-T.jpg
    2934-4-405-S.jpg

    and replace it with:

    403-1853.jpg
    403-1853-T.jpg
    403-1853-S.jpg
    2934-4-200.jpg
    2934-4-200-T.jpg
    2934-4-200-S.jpg

based on a table like this to compensate for varied names:

    -398-, -1853-
    -398., -1853.
    -405-, -200-
    -405., -200.

So I have one spreadsheet with about 31,000 filenames that need to be changed, and another sheet with the two-column table of the numbers that need replacing.
Once this is somehow done, I'll need to rename files based on that new list; but that's another issue...Unless there was some way to mass find an rename files based on an my replace table, that'd work too but I doubt that a solution like that is easy to find.

Thanks in advance, and apologies if this has already been solved.

Hi Eggroll and welcome to the forum,

Back before windows we needed to do this type of thing all the time. It seems to me using the CMD prompt (DOS Box) and then normal DOS commands will lead you to an answer. See
    http://www.computerhope.com/renamehl.htm

Then using wildcard characters and extending this to a BATCH file would be the pre-windows method.

I hope this helps you find an answer.

Thanks for the welcome Marvin, this seems to be a great forum, and as I've just started to get into the real intricacies of Excel I'll definitely be visiting more often.

As for the DOS solution, I can definitely look into that, seems like a worthwhile project to figure out! Thanks again for the response, I'll post back once I've found a solution for others.
