Converting multiple columns to rows / Converting to Panel Data

    Dear all,

I am currently struggling with a data format challenge. I have exported a large portion of data from Orbis into excel. However the data is not in “Panel Data” format, and I thus need to convert multiple columns into multiple rows. As the data set is rather large I can’t do this by hand – is anyone in here able to solve the challenge by code?

Attached is a small example of the dataset. (The real dataset will include approximately 1700 companies and more key figures) The workbook includes 2 sheets. One with the original output from Orbis and a sheet where I have manually made an example of the desired data format.

Your help would be very much appreciated.

    Best Regards,
    Stu

    Hi Steffen,

thanks a lot for your help, much appreciated!

The code you have written works perfectly, however I need it to be able to handle more variables. I will try and alter it myself or else upload a new workbook, with all the included variables Or do you know if it is possible to make a dynamic code that could handle a not prespecified number of variables?

    Thanks again for your help,
    Stu
