    Create Calendar on Excel data

Hey guys,I have been trying to work on this for a few days now and just got stumped. I have searched the forum and found multiple samples and have been very helpful. I am not just that technical. I have a spreadsheet filled with data for our projects with start dates and finish dates. My boss is looking to update the data sheet and be able to automatically see a monthly calendar showing certain start dates, I have highlighted them in the spreadsheet. I am not sure if I should use a macro or just use a formula. I am using Excel 2010 and have included what they expect the calendar to look like. Any help would be appreciated.

Right now on the Calendar Spreadsheet it is just done manually. Whoever created it just was updating it manually and moving the dates. They were just using Word to create it. In the data worksheet they only want 4 dates to show in this calendar. Final Config Due, UAT Start, Downtime Starts, Due to Production. He does not care about the Finish Dates since they are only for him. He just wants the Start Dates to be able to show on a monthly calendar.

question(s) 1. how is the list of projects maintained, meaning how many people have their hand in it, who creates the list, who maintains it and who makes changes. 2. is the column format on the Data sheet firm or would you consider an alternative method, say putting the different project categories on different sheets? 3. do any of the sheets need to be locked down? 4. do you know how to do Conditional Formatting? Thanks for your reply. I will try to answer your questions as best as I can.

1.As of right now only my Supervisor has access to the list and he maintains it and will make changes to it. He makes all the inputs and then transfers them over to the Calendar worksheet Manually. Since he does it by hand it takes a while and sometimes he puts the wrong information. Also of the 13 items that has dates he only wants 4 on the monthly calendar so he can give to our team.

    2. No the format is not firm in the Data Sheet. That is what he has right now but he is open to any format as long as it does what he wants.

    3. No no sheets need to be locked down.

    4. I know a little on Conditional Formatting. Learning the various Formulas I can use right now.

    1. 13 items, only 4 on the calendar means he transfers only 4 of the highlighted projects from the datasheet to the calendar?

Yes, Out of the 13 items he only wants the 4 dates for each project on the Calendar. Those are the dates that our team needs to worry about, the rest of the information is for him only.

Your welcome. Has the boss considered just using a timeline instead of a calendar? The data would only have to be put in once. If you/he are/is interested, let me know and I'll work it up for you. Should be able to do a timeline without much coding.

Re: Create Calendar on Excel data

I think his overall plan is to have the calendar list the 4 highlighted dates and later on create a separate sheet with a timeline that includes all the dates. The monthly calendar would be given to employees so they know the simple due dates and know what to focus on. The timeline would be given to other supervisors so they could have a high level overview.
