Imbed cell reference within script

I'm struggling with this one guys and could really appreciate a bit of help.

Sheet 1 has a cell which someone selects a letter type (2.2.1 - 2.3.9) and another which the date the letter is dated is manually input. On sheet 2 I have a merged cell range (D4:P40) which will produce a set script based on if letter type is <=2.2.9, or >=2.3.0 when a command button is selected.

Within the script I would like to be able to reference the date held within the cell in sheet 1 (let's say D4).

Does anyone have any ideas how to do this?

To attach a Workbook
(please do not post pictures of worksheets)

Click Advanced (next to quick post),
Scroll down until you see "Manage Attachments",
Click that then select "add files" (top right corner).
Click "Select Files" find your file, click "open" click "upload"
Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
Click "Done" at bottom right to close the Attachment Manager.
Click "Submit Reply"
