Question Trying to set up a sheet to give a running balance.

    Computer ACER 64 bit
    OS Windows 7 ultimate
    Microsoft Office 2003

Hi! I'm trying to set up a little personal finance sheet but run into a problem. here is my problem:

Say I have 2 columns d, e, I want to keep a running balance in the e column. I start with a total in the first column e. In the second row in the d column I have a value, either positive or negative, I want to sum this value with the number in the e column row one. I want to place the result in the second row of column e. I want to do the same calculation on each subsequent row, thereby have a running total of expenditures in the e column. Can someone please help me do this
    Thanks
    Paul

If D1 and E1 contain headers, place the below formula in cell E2 and then copy down.

    P3aul

Sounds like you simply want the formula in the e column to add the previous e column cell (above) to the d column cell next to it ( left). If you write this in say e2 = E1 + D2 then simply drag this down it will always add the latest running total to the next expense item in column d. Am I oversimplifying what you want?

    Hi,

Cell E2 must be your beginning balance. Right?

    1. Copy and paste in E3 =IF(D3="","",E2+D3)
    2. Copy and paste this in F3 =IF(AND(E3<>"",E4=""),"End Cash balance","")
