Question Renaming a chart, and elliminating an anomaly of chart copies given the same name by excel

I used the following code to rename a few charts in my workbook:

I did this with several charts. If now I grab one of the renamed charts and copy and paste it to make a duplicate of it, let's say of Chart 4, for example, the new chart is also named chart 4 by excel vs. excel giving it the next available number. How do I stop this? I need to make several copies of Chart 4, for example, modify them slightly, and then refer to them in macros, though it seems that would be impossible if they all have identical names.

Also, I created several Chart 4's - how do I rename specific Chart 4's? Perhaps by selecting them and then executing some sort of code similar to the above - just need help with the code.

    Thanks.

You either quit or become really good at it. There are no other choices.

I don't know of a way to make Excel automatically rename your manually copy pasted charts to a next available number, but you can manually rename them.

Select the chart and there should be a new group of Menu appearing - Chart Tools. Click on Layout of Chart Tools and at extreme right, you can give the chart a new name.

Like Millx I don't know how to restore automatic numbering of charts once you have manually changed a chart name

this macro, however, will rename all of the charts in your sheet named "Chart 4" from "Graph 1", "Graph 2" etc (I used graph so you don't create new duplicates of chart names )
