On SharePoint, and how to stuff dead animals

I have been working with SharePoint for years, but it's all been self-taught. I have been tasked with putting together a usable team site for my group at work. I decided to get a couple books on the theory of metadata and records management, since I have no formal training, and understanding the reasons behind best practices has always helped me.

A co-worker stopped by to talk to me today. They asked me, seemingly out of the blue, how you accidently stuff a dead animal. I was a bit taken aback, until I realized they were looking at one of the books on my desk. It's called The Accidental Taxonomist.

These are the people I have to teach to use SharePoint. I need a drink.

    LOL!!!

You'll need more than one ... and they'll need to be stiff ones, too (the drinks, not the animals).

    Best of luck!

Re: On SharePoint, and how to stuff dead animals

Thanks! The last SharePoint implementation I was involved with had an outside company do all the backend stuff. This time, I'm working strictly out of the box. The biggest obstacle will be getting all the old dogs to move away from the shared network drives. They're a mess, but they're familiar. SharePoint is new, and difficult, and a sign of the apocalypse, judging by the current reactions.

It is difficult to get right, that's true, but when it works, it's good, very good. Keep this in your mind when wanting to thow your PC out of the window.

I agree. I'm a huge proponent of SharePoint, and it's absolutely amazing when implemented properly. Unfortunately, "done fast" and "done correctly" are rarely good bedfellows. Appreciate the support, I'll keep thinking positive thoughts!

Sell the mounts until both your customers go out of business leaving you stuck with the taxidermy supplies, that's how.
