Digital Rain - Who wants to help me make this even cooler?

I know this should probably be in the watercooler section but there's rarely ever anyone on there to read your posts and I know some of you guys will probably find this fun and want to help

I've taken this very cool matrix 'digital rain' effect from the below link. It uses conditional formatting and a scroll bar to make it work. I've changed it up a bit. attached. changed the conditional formatting to add more colours. I also got rid of the scroll bar and created a macro to increase the value in A1(hidden) as time passes. In my workbook this sheet is veryhidden and gets activated after the user finds a wee button and goes through some matrix lines in the form of prompt boxes. and the timer gets set off when the page becomes actived.

It looks cools, but I'd like some ideas of how to make it cooler. I've been thinking we could add some code so when the numbers reach a certain cell that cell will change to a letter and eventually a word will be spelled out. Other suggestions are welcome.

The little box to run the macro is at the right hand side between the two sets of hyperlinks. I've deleted the other pages from this workbook because it's an actual spreadsheet I use at work that I've built this into as a sort of easter egg.

Many thanks to anyone who wants to join in with this

    Hi R,

to be honest - I can understand why noone really replied to this...
In my opinion it is a pretty lame sheet / digital rain effect
    - first of all it only features numbers and is missing the letters / special characters from the original Matrix effect
    - second it blocks excel while running, which imho defeats the purpose. If people just want to see it in the background, why would you not just have a screensaver / look at it on youtube.

If you can give me a screenshot / movie of the original effect as it is in the movies, we can just code that so that the user can STILL use the sheet and it running in the background as well...

    Thats true jasper,

but the point of this thread was to get some cooler idea's to jazz it up bud. Maybe add in special characters etc.

and in the context of whats I'm builidng, which is more than just this sheet. the sheet itself acts as a buffer almost before re-directing to another sheet...containing a riddle.

saying that, the only reason it acts as a buffer is because the coding stops you from being able to operate excel whilst it exectues. But if there was a way to get around that then thats the kind of idea's I'm looking for!

Working from an application.ontime rather than an application.wait would be a start.
But seriously, got a link to the "real deal" for me, so I can see what we want to make and ehm, make it....

I found some other methods here for allowing keyboard and mouse events to take place whilst using a wait type function.

Ok so I looked at you rain. I have no idea how to do anything like that but thought a cool idea would be to have different colors coming down. As the different colors came
down, when say a Green color hit the right cell it would stick. After 60 seconds of the "digital rain" coming down with different colors, this would allow a picture to develop.
After a couple of minutes your rain could paint a pre-determined portrait. ?

    Hey Darin,

Thanks for the input! It's a very cool idea! It would be a quite different to program I imagine. The digital rain I'm using uses conditional formatting to change the colour of the font in each cell depending on their value. but there are always values in each cell, most of them are just the same colour as the back ground. I have been trying to think of a way to get certain cells to stick though, but I think revealing a message would be more within my grasp. Maybe if someone with a bit more knowledge takes an interest we could make something like that, you could even just use the different shades of green to make something to keep it digital looking.
