    Math question ... I'm looking for X

    Hi,

    I have one math problem ... yes I know, I wasn't listening in school, but that's why I have you :-)

    This is my equation ... X + (X * 33,85%) + 4,55 = 177,26 ... and I'm looking for X! OK, I know that X = 129,03, but I need to build equation, to get this X.

    Thx in advance ... cheers, Marko

    P.S.
    I hope that I've post in the right place ... sorry if I didn't!

    Re: Math question ... I'm looking for X

    Algebra:

    x + (x *33.85%) +4.55 = 177.26

    Subtract 4.55 from each side of the equation
    x + (x *33.85%) = 172.71

    x + (x * 33.85%) is the same as 100.3385%

    So next step is 100.3385% * x =172.71

    100.3385 % = 1.3385

    Therefore we divide both sides of the equation by 1.3385

    1.3385 x/1.3385 = 172.71/1.3385
    Answer: x = 129.03249906611878968995143817706

    x=(177.26-4.55)/(1+33.85%)
    steps
    X + (X * 33.85%) + 4.55 = 177.26
    x(1+33.85%)+4.55 =177.26
    x(1+33.85%)=177.26-4.55
    x=177.26-4.55
    -----------
    (1+33.85%)
    rewrite as
    x=(177.26-4.55)/(1+33.85%)

    alansidman and martindwilson ... both of you should be my math teachers in school, because I understood you immediately!

    Thanks both to you, it works perfect. I needed this because I have a lot of "177.26" numbers and I needed to get gross (X) and further net values.

    Thanks again and both of you get "reputation"! ... cheers, Marko
