    Formatting issue with line breaks.

I have a text document that I wish to copy / past into word.
The text document has a word proceeded by a tab and then a set up numbers which include a (,) as a separator.
When I paste, it will automatically insert a line break IF the set of numbers exceeds the width of the line.
This is a multi-column page with an average page count of say.....50 pages.

I have tried playing with different formatting options and cannot find a solution.

It comes out something like this:

The only way I have found to fix it is with a hard line break. But with 3 columns and 50 pages, this is an unrealistic solution.

This is word formatting....not excel. Let me pare it down to a page.

    No worries and no foul.
I can live with I got if I can make all "alpha" terms formatted as BOLD.
    At least for now.

I think, at this point, I need to solicit assistance on a pro level.
It is painfully clear to me that I can no longer handle code the way I used to do.
Covid was not kind to me.

Re: Formatting issue with line breaks.

It sounds like the issue you're experiencing is related to the way Word is automatically formatting the text when you paste it into a new document. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:

Before pasting the text into Word, try pasting it into a text editor like Notepad or TextEdit first. This will remove any formatting or hidden characters that may be causing the issue.

When you paste the text into Word, try using the "Paste Special" feature. This will allow you to paste the text as unformatted text, which should prevent Word from automatically inserting line breaks. To do this, click on the "Home" tab in the ribbon, then click on the down arrow next to "Paste" and select "Paste Special". In the dialog box that appears, select "Unformatted Text" and click "OK".

If neither of the above options work, you may need to manually adjust the formatting of the text after pasting it into Word. One way to do this is to use the "Find and Replace" feature to replace all occurrences of the tab character with a space. To do this, press Ctrl+H to open the "Find and Replace" dialog box, then enter "^t" (without the quotes) in the "Find what" field and a single space in the "Replace with" field. Click "Replace All" to replace all tabs with spaces.

Another option is to adjust the page layout settings in Word to accommodate the longer strings of numbers. To do this, go to the "Page Layout" tab in the ribbon, click on "Margins" and select "Custom Margins". In the dialog box that appears, adjust the margins and/or column settings to allow more space for the longer strings of numbers.

I hope these suggestions help you resolve the formatting issue you're experiencing!

Re: Formatting issue with line breaks.

    Luciamartyn, welcome to the forum.

Is your forum profile showing the Excel PRODUCT that you need this request to work with?

The best solutions often rely on knowing WHICH Office PRODUCT that you have. Please check that your forum profile is up-to-date. If you aren't sure, in Excel go to File/Account and report what it says below the MS logo at the top of that page. If your version is for Mac, please also state this.

The three most recent Excel PRODUCTS are Excel 2019, Excel 2021 and MS365 - if you are using MS365, please give this name along with the Version number in your profile (e.g. MS365 (PC) Version 2211). The version number is in the About Excel section further down the Account page.

    Thank you.

Re: Formatting issue with line breaks.

Sorry about the late response Luciamartyn. Busy time of year for me.

Before pasting the text into Word, try pasting it into a text editor like Notepad or TextEdit first.
This is a standard step for me.

When you paste the text into Word, try using the "Paste Special" feature. This will allow you to paste the text as unformatted text, which should prevent Word from automatically inserting line breaks.
This is not available when pasting from notepad back to word. Just "Keep Text Only"

press Ctrl+H to open the "Find and Replace" dialog box, then enter "^t" (without the quotes) in the "Find what" field and a single space in the "Replace with" field.
This blows out all of the tab leader dots. When I do this, and I hit tab after the word in question, it automatically goes to a new line. EVEN IF I have a manual tab set.

Another option is to adjust the page layout settings in Word to accommodate the longer strings of numbers.
Not really an option. The page is three columns. I don't want the word index to be as long as the document itself. It was a worthy effort and I appreciate it.

They were replying to my inquiry and it is about Word formatting and not Excel.
