Need help plotting multiple sets of data on same chart

    Hi,

I am working on a graph that contains multiple sets of data (for Chemistry, related to Beer's Law). There are 4 sets of data (for 4 different solutions). Each set is time (x) vs. concentration (y). I think it
would have to be a scatterplot because I do not want the dots connected by a line. However, each set of data does not have the same times. I can't figure out to plot all 4 on the same graph with
tick marks that would fit the data. Instead I keep getting, on the x-axis, the numbers 2,4,6,8,...., which are not even close to the values I need. I have attached a link to the following data, in case anyone has any
insight. I have been using excel for years, yet I can't figure out why now my x-values and y-values are plotted separately. If anyone can give me any instructions, I would be very grateful.

    Thanks

Since your example is a google docs spreadsheet rather than an Excel spreadsheet, I guess I have to ask if you are asking how to do this in Excel or in Google Docs? I have not done much charting in Google Docs, but what little I have done has suggested to me that Google Docs charting engine is quite different from Excel's charting engine. Instructions for generating the chart you want will depend on the platform you want to use to generate the plot. I also find that charts created in Google Docs Sheets do not always translate correctly into Excel and vice-versa.

In Excel, I find the easiest way to get multiple data series into a chart is to create the chart with one data series, then follow these instructions to add each additional data series: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...spx?CTT=1#BM2a

In Google Docs, I don't know how to add series to a chart.

The difference between line charts and scatter charts is not whether the points are connected by line segments. That's just the difference between the icons for the chart types. You can format any line or scatter chart series with or without markers, with or without lines.

One important difference between line and scatter charts is the X axis. Scatter charts plot the X axis as a numerical axis, and each series can have independent values. Line charts plot the X axis as nonnumeric categories regardless of any apparent values in the data, and each series uses the same X values.

So you want a scatter chart.

Your data should be in four sets of columns. Each set has X values in the first column and Y values in the second. The cell above the X values should be empty, the cell above the Y values should contain the series name.

Select the data for the first series, including the blank cell and series name. Insert a scatter chart.

Select and copy the data for the second series, including the blank cell and series name. Select the chart, and click the Paste Special command on the Paste button dropdown on the Home tab of the ribbon. Choose these options:
    - Paste Data as New Series
    - Values in Columns
    - Series Names in First Row
    - X Values in First Column

Repeat for the third and fourth set of data.
