How can I change the values of the y-axis manually

    Hi

I was just wondering if you could help?!

I have a line graph that which looks like below:

    Map Dashboard.png

I was wondering how can I emphasise the growth in the middle section. So effectively have one gap on the side as 0-500 then the next 500-550 then 550-600, 600-650, 650-700 and 700-1400

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Regards

    Michael

    Hi,

One way would be to create another series for plotting on the 2nd y axis and scale that series to show the groups you want.

    Hi Richard

Thanks for getting back to me.

    How would I do this?

Do I need to create a new set of data and use that?

    Thanks

    Michael

I guess it depends exactly what you are trying to do. My first thought would be to go into the "format axis" dialog and select new axis limits. Since it appears that you are trying to really see the region between 500 and 700, I would make those the axis limits. You seem to want to view the values in groups of 50, so I would set that as the major axis division. Obviously, everything below the chart is below 500, and everything above the chart is above 700.

A more involved approach, which is what Richard had in mind, I think, is an "arbitrary" axis technique illustrated here: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/Y_CategoryAxis.html Yes it will involve adding a new data set, it may involve scaling and otherwise manipulating the data in the spreadsheet, but it is usually a fairly simple technique to implement.
