Not really a solution, but I reckon you could do this with an xy graph, take a look at this workbook by Andy: http://www.andypope.info/charts/3drotate.zip

I couldn't figure out how to apply that approach to this issue. I need to study Andy's file a bit more I reckon.
I think you will have more success manipulating shapes with VBA rather than try to chart it.
The problem with using charts is overcoming the category axes limitations.
