How to increase the amount of ticks on x-axis?

I am graphing 5040 points of data and the guy wanting the data wants to be able to see between each point so I have shrunk the markers to the smallest they can be but with that I still need to make the graph 300" wide. When I do this and try to set the major ticks marks to 10, it counts every 10.1. I can't add minor marks any smaller either.

Doing some messing around it turns out that excel will only allow 500 individual marks on the x-axis (5040/500 = 10.08) Does anyone know how to get around this?

I figure my next course of action is to split it into 3 graphs but, I'd like to solve this as well.

Some things can be worked around, but I dont think that is 1 of them - if thats all you can have, then thats all you can have

I might ask what the user is trying to do that necessitates being able to see/resolve 1/500th of the axis length. Whenever I end up trying to do something like that, I end up deciding that whatever it was I wanted to do would be better done with an analytical/mathematical approach (curve fitting, for example).
