Equal size cells in doughnut chart.

    Hi Guys,

I have been trying to do this for days without luck, and surrendered to some online help.

Im trying to make a doughnut chart with equal size cells, so that I can make a calendar kinda similar to this one below:
    025.jpg

When I create the pie chart from the selected cells, it uses the numbers in the cells to as values to change the size of the cells like this:
    ex.jpg

I can make a doughnut chart with equal size cells by making all the values 1. But then how do I enter text into each cell and have the chart stay the same size? Ive been trying to see how to make the values of each cell the same etc but failed, and I still need to enter my own text into each cell. Not sure if my question makes sense but its difficult to explain.

    Pls help :-(

To get the same size, go to the graph's design tab and choose 'Switch Row/Column'. As for getting the labels in there, you may need to do this manually, or you could write a macro to fill them in. Using your chart above, something like:

Would change the text in the top outer segment. However, the text will not curve with the graphic.

It's an interesting effect, but if you want to use Excel, it will be a lot of manual typing and shading (or a macro, which would still require some effort). Would recommend using a proper design tool such as Illustrator.

To get the sections of each ring to be the same size you have to use the same value. Basically you would have a matrix of 1's

The you would need to colour and label each data point as appropriate

    Hi Pauley,

Thank you so much for your response, it has really helped me get onto the right track!

    Your macro command works:-)

How would I add "font size" and "font type" to your macro command?

As you can see Im on the right track, all fonts must just be the same as the 1 2 3 4. Thank you so much.

I admire your perseverance. Not something I would find enjoyable - changing each of those cells.

Let me include you in a handy technique - record macro. You need to enable the Developer tab, but that is how I determined how to change the color of a cell text (since I don't remember all of these things off the top of my head). I have a feeling you will want to play with the graphics even more, such as changing the color of specific cells, so recording a macro and then determining the important pieces is useful.

BTW, I hope you aren't using the macro code step by step, but have put this in some sort of loop to quickly update the rink.

    Hi Pauley,

Thanks for the macro code, it really helped get me onto the right track, again.
I was finally able to achieve want I wanted to do with your help. I created the correct text, font and size in all the correct cells :-) I admit it took me about 4 hours.
I then exported the text with a blank background as a PDF, and then again with the cell borders to another PDF, this way I could get separate layers in Photoshop, and edit each layer accordingly.
My company calendar is complete, it will be printed 54cm high by 1.2 meters wide, the planets on it will all be 3D dome stickers.
This is the result :-))) Thank you sooo much.
