First data cell not counted in pivot table...

    Hi guys,

My problem is shown in the screenshot and the uploaded file.

In the pivot table you can notice that the first data cell should show value 1500 for "huish" (first column) in "jan" (first row).
That's the sum of the first 2 rows, 1000 + 500 = 1500. It shows only 500, that's the vlaue of the second row only!

    Any idea why???

For "feb" (third and forth row), the column "huish" shows correctly the sum of both rows, i.e. 300 + 300 = 600.

Thank you in advance for any great advise!
    ..
    Best regards form Belgium

I think you should attach example excel file first then ask about pivot table

To attach an Excel file to your post,
    • click Go Advanced,
    • scroll down until you see Manage Attachments,
    • click that and select Browse,
    • select your file and click Open,
    • click Upload and you will see your attachment below Upload Files from a website
    • click Close this window,
    • click Submit reply

After that you should see attachment in your post

Re: First data cell not counted in pivot table...

    That one is correct.
But you had to add a row and extra data.
Ther should be no need to do that.

Why is mine not giving correct figures?
There is no reason for it, as far as I see it.

Pivot Table works with columns and content not with rows only
in your example first row is treated like headers for columns

maybe read here: How Pivot Table works

Re: First data cell not counted in pivot table...

Thank you for this source to learn more about the pivot table. I will surely dive into it :-)

But I really think what I present is one of the most essential tables you can have: 3 columns.
For the pivot table: one for the rows, one for the columns and one for the data.

An addition of those data values should be made of the first 2 rows, period. "huish" = 1000 (first row) + 500 (second row) = 1500, which should be the value for "jan".
    Or am I overlooking something???

Re: First data cell not counted in pivot table...

No because in your example first row is treaded like headers so in effect you have one Jan and two Feb, so values are correct for single jan = 500 and double feb = 300+300 = 600
headers are not counted in PivotTable

Re: First data cell not counted in pivot table...

You defined headers for columns and it's correct for Pivot Table

Re: First data cell not counted in pivot table...

    Thanks for the feedback
and remeber ... for a PivotTable first row will be treated as Headers and it will be not counted in PivotTable
Doesn't matter there will be 1,2,3... or names - name1, name2, name3.... - it will be treated as headers - alwayas

If that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED. Thanks.
