Actual promotions and promotion rate by gender Chart ideas help!

    Hi,

I`ve been tasked with providing some charts to show the difference in promotions in 2018 and 2019 by gender. Basically the amount of women and men promoted each year by gender at each employee grade (level) and the promotion rate for each gender at each employee grade (actual promotion / average number of employees in grade). I have made a combo chart with secondary axis showing a bar for actual and a line for rate - this looks really busy and confusing but not sure what else to do .

Any inspiration or help would be much appreciated. I have attached the workbook.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

Take your own advice. Rather than stuff all the numbers into a single chart try "some charts".

Decide what story you want to tell with the various pieces of data.
    Total %Change by gender
    Level %Change by gender
    Total %Change over time
    Gender %Change over time
    Level %Change over time
    Level/Gender %Change over time

In all I would incorporate the base sizes

For direct comparison use a cluster column or bar
For trend use line. Given the 2 period points a dot plot may be better
    Cheers
