Chart error message does not make sense

I'm trying to add one more data point to a chart and I keep getting the attached error message. I cannot figure out what's causing it, the additional data point has exactly the format as all the rest of the other data. The X-axis are dates entered with the following function =DATE(year, month, day) and the Y-axis are percentage values. The chart works fine for all the rest of the data except this last one. Any suggestions are appreciated. thx

Here's the spreadsheet, all I'm trying to do is to add cell D60 for the Y value and A59 for the X.

I imagine that you are leaving the end bracket in place.

    Hi there,

Take a look at the attached version of your workbook and see if it does what you need.

To include the latest set of data in the graph, just copy downwards the last row of the new data table.

Just out of interest I added a feature which allows you to select a specific channel (Red, Green, Blue) which automatically updates the values being displayed and changes the colour of the chart title and the graph to suit the colour of the selected channel:

The highlighted value may be changed to suit your own requirements.

    Hope you find this useful/interesting.

    Regards,

Re: Chart error message does not make sense

thanks for that, just to clarify further, my original graph had all the values selected EXCEPT the very last set for October 20. So to update the graph I clicked on Select Data... and once that window came up, all the existing values in the graph were already selected so I used the Command key (on a Mac) to select the last data point, and that's when I got the error message. I also tried to manually enter the cell reference in the Select Data box but I didn't know how to navigate the cursor to the end of the data range (hope this makes sense). Anyways thank you

    You're welcome

When you use Select data and edit the series, it will be in "point mode". If you use the arrow keys, it "corrupts" the series as it will add cells. On a Windows machine, you need to press the F2 key to go into Edit mode. After that, you can move around using the arrows.
