Formula to chance decimal to imperial

    Morning all,

I hope someone can help me with some formulas that I cannot seem to fathom out.

In the UK we measure our railways in miles and chains usually written as M-Ch.

    1 mile = 80 chains.

What I an trying to do is calculate differences between two points.

    Example:

    Station A 30-40
    Station B 35-60

    Answer being 5-20

The way I have done is in the past is quite long winded so I am hoping someone can help get this down to something more simplistic.

Cell A9 has the value 35.
Cell B9 has the value 40
Cell A10 has the value 30.
Cell B10 has the value 20.

Cell C9 has the formula =sum(B9/80)
Cell D9 has the formula =sum(A9,C9)
Cell C10 has the formula =sum(B10/80)
Cell D10 has the formula =sum(A10,C10)

Cell D11 has the formula =sum(D9-D10) thus giving me the answer (in decimal)

Now is the bit I am really stuck on.

How to convert back to Miles and chains from decimal?
Or is there a bettwe way to do the original calculations ?
A mad football researcher and Statistician - ok just mad really !

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and use the paperclip icon to open the upload window.

I didn't quite follow your formulas. Is it something like this?

Edit: I saw the numbers are in seperate cells, updated sheet

Re: Formula to chance decimal to imperial

    Hi,

I changed the cell formula in I7 to =I5-I4 and it works perfectly.

    Thank yo so much.

    I needed the INT fucntion

That sorts a problem for me.

I have a larger problem to sort but this is a great stepping stone.

Once I have attempted the next step if I get a problem I'll be in touch
