Populate Cell Based on Data Validation Choice

Using Excel 2007

In cell C1, I have a data validation list. When the user chooses his/her name from the list, I want to populate cell C3 with their respective phone extension.
How can this be done?

1) Create a list on a separate sheet with names in one columns and phone numbers in the next
2) Set up the data validation using a named range based on the first of these columns
3) Apply the data validation to the relevant cells
4) Use VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH to return the appropriate phone number from the list you created in step 1.

I shall put together a demo and post it in a minute or two.
