Pull data from only certain columns in a table using a formula

I have a large table that feeds from Access so when access is updated this table is updated as well. I use this data to feed other worksheets in excel. So what I am working with is multiple columns and I want to create a formula that looks up specific data from only certain named columns. For example, I want to pull all amounts in the amount column ("AMT") Based on the whatever month I want to use in the Month column ("MON") based on what ever Fiscal Year it is in the Fiscal Year column ("FY"), based on the specific Unit that I want to pull the data for in the Unit column ("Unit") and based on the criteria I set in the status column ("STAT") which would be either BGT, EXP, PROJ. I was thinking a sumproduct formula would work but I can't figure out how to get it put in correctly.

Where is the proposed output of this thing?
Can you include an example so we know what you are trying to do in excel?

So I created what you wanted with Sumifs and data validations with drop downs, BUT I think it is easier to use a pivot table and slicers so I did that as well.

Take a look at both. Also feel free to copy and paste your data into that file then REFRESH ALL pivots and it will use ALL of the data.

Sumifs vs PivotTable and slicers .xlsx

Let me know if you have any questions.

EDIT: also, HOLY COW you had 36,000 cell styles! (I tried to find INPUT which is the orange, and I couldn't find it! LOL) So I purged all the ones that are not default.

This is perfect! now can I make it a little more difficult by saying that my fiscal year runs from July to June so in the formula if I wanted to see all expenses in December and all months prior what would I need to add to your current formula?

I would use calculated columns in the raw data, then use that to filter or slice on.

Re: Pull data from only certain columns in a table using a formula

You have been an awesome help! I am trying to make the data and the workbook as clean as possible so that upon opening I won't have to really update any pivot tables so formulas work best. When I plug in Projections at the beginning of the year they change as time goes on and so what I am hoping I can do is just add another formula that says if Today is greater than a [Date] pull in August through June but if it is greater than [Date] pull in September through and so on and so forth until the end of the year in June the projections no longer exist.

I think pivot tables is by far the cleanest and most streamlined approach, but either is easy enough.
