I've seen threads about this but I need a bit more then just head count by department... I need this but some users have changed departments which also need to be considered.
e.g.
John started on 1.1.2014 in the Sales dept but then transferred to operations on 2.5.2015 so being there is no termination date but rather a department change.
Tom started on 2.3.2014 in Sales but then transferred to accounting in 10.1.2015
Mary started on 3.1.2015 and was terminated on 4.1/2015
Please upload a workbook or a representative cut down copy, anonymised if necessary. It is always easier to advise if we can see your request in its context.
Show a before and after situation with manually calculated results, explaining which information is data and which is results, and if it's not blindingly obvious how you have arrived at your results some explanatory notes as well.

Thank you Richard for the quick reply - for some reason I can't attached any files - when I click on the attach icon is just shows a thin box with no options, thinking maybe it was a browser thing I tried a different browser also.... will keep trying.
