Quick question: list multiple name values in conditional formatting formula

At the moment I have a formula for =C3="Closed" which changes the column to a grey colour if the status column is marked as "Closed". I wish to add other values like "Cancelled" however my attempts have failed.

    Original: =C3="Closed"

I have tried things like =C3="Closed","Cancelled" and =C3={"Closed","Cancelled"} to no avail.

It's probably something so easy but unfortunately I am missing it and I'm putting the wrong terms in Google or something as not even that helped!

    Thank you

The way it works is that it is a task list, similar to this:

A Status Priority Task Assigned DueBy
    B OPEN LOW -
    C CLOSED LOW -
    D CLOSED LOW -

Keeping in mind I am a noob, would your formula not lock the entire open Task column (the idea is the task goes grey when it's finished) to take the status from C3 and not the column C entry for that row?

I can provide an example if it helps

    Thanks

I think that needs to be adjusted to this...
    =OR($C3="Closed",$C3="Cancelled")
