    Conditional Formatting that results in another cell changing to a certain text

    Hello,

    I would like to use conditional formatting so that when a date expires (based on todays date) the cell next to it formats to EXPIRED

    For example,

    I have the date 20/11/2016 in cell A1 and because that date is before todays (26/11/2016) date it means that it has expired. In this case I would like the text EXPIRED to appear in cell B1.

    Is there a way to do this? Currently i'm just using colours so that when the date expires the specific cell turns red but instead I would like for the cell next to the date to state EXPIRED. I will also be using date periods based on the specified date. For example if the date is 18 - 21 months away from expiring then I would like the opposite cell to turn <=21m with there also being another period <=18..

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks
    Alex

    You cannot use Conditional Formatting to display text in a cell - it's restricted to formatting only (There's a hint ion the name )

    You can use a normal formula in B1

    =IF(A1<NOW(), "Expired", "")

    Thanks - so in effect I could just copy the formulas used in each conditional formatting rule into one formula

    I will have multiple rules so could I input all of these into one large formula so that EXPIRED or <=24m or <=21m or <=18m and so on?
